GREENSBORO, N.C. --- North Carolina senior forward Jessica Breland was one of five standouts named to the Preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference women's basketball team, the league announced Tuesday after a vote of the Blue Ribbon Panel, which consists of national and local media, as well as school representatives. In the preseason poll, Carolina received six first place votes and was picked to finish second in 2010-11.
Breland is back for her senior season after missing all of last year while undergoing treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma. A second-team All-ACC and ACC all-defensive team selection as a junior, the Kelford, N.C., product was named to the preseason list for the second straight season.
Joining Breland on the preseason all-league squad are preseason player of the year Jasmine Thomas of Duke, Miami's Shenise Johnson, Boston College's Carolyn Swords and Florida State's Courtney Ward.
Duke received 24 of 33 first-place votes to come in as the preseason favorite for the first time since 2005. Florida State was picked third and received two first-place votes, with Maryland and Georgia Tech rounding out the top five.
