Three Tar Heels Headed For NCAA Indoor Championships
March 2, 2022 | Track & Field
Three Tar Heels are headed to the 2022 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, set for March 11-12 in Birmingham, Ala. Anna Keefer, Daniel McArthur and Jill Shippee, all graduate students who are school record holders, will compete at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
Â
Keefer qualified to compete in both the long jump and the 200 meters. She competed in the long jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships in 2021 as well, earning second-team All-America honors with a 10th place finish.
Â
McArthur will compete in the shot put, an event in which he is a three-time All-America honoree. He was fourth in 2019 – competing in Birmingham – and fourth again in 2021. He also received All-America honors in 2020, when the championship was canceled.
Â
Shippee will compete in the weight throw. She earned All-America honors in the most recent NCAA Outdoor Championships after taking third in the hammer throw.
Â
All three set school records at the 2022 Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Championships last weekend. Keefer's long jump distance of 21-6 (6.55m) earned her gold and was the best in school history. McArthur earned shot put gold with a school-record throw of 70-7 (21.51m). Shippee broke her own school record in the  weight throw and placed third with a distance of 72-8.5 (21.16m).
