Sunday's race will provide a test as UNC wraps up fall training.
Rowing Set To Compete At Rivanna Romp

After a fall of training, the Carolina rowing team will get the opportunity to race on Sunday at the Rivanna Romp on the Rivanna Reservoir in Earlysville, Va. The race, which begins at noon, caps the fall season for the Tar Heels.

Varsity eights will kick off the event, followed by varsity fours and then novice crews racing down a 4,000-meter course. Carolina will see plenty of familiar faces in the ACC-heavy field, competing against Duke, Louisville and host Virginia. Also racing are Navy and Minnesota, the alma mater of UNC assistant Miranda Cyr, a former coxswain for the Golden Gophers who graduated last spring.

UNC Head coach Erin Neppel is looking forward to seeing her team's work this fall put into action in its only race. "This will let us see where we stack up against people we've seen a lot before," she said. Â

Carolina will race four boats in the varsity 8+ field, which starts at noon. Five Tar Heel boats are entered in the varsity 4+ race at 1:30 p.m., and one Carolina boat will compete in the novice/freshman race at 1:45.
