
Tar Heels Shoot 5-Under Par, Move Into 5th

CHAPEL HILL - The University of North Carolina shot 5-under-par 283 in round two of the 42nd Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational to finish the day at 4-under par and tied for 5th. Ava Berger and Brynn Walker both shot 2-under 70 to lead Carolina on the afternoon. Bergner sits at 4-under par and is in a tie for 10th, while Walker is aT 3-under and tied for 15th.
The Tar Heels started off morning with hot putters, knocking in 10 birdies to only three bogeys on the front nine. However, they seemed to cool off just a bit down the stretch, shooting 1-over on the course's back half. Carolina continued to move up the leaderboard, climbing two spots to be in a tie for fifth with NC State.
Mariana Ocano had the best round of her young career, finishing under par for the first time at 1-under 71. She is 8-over par for the tournament and tied for 73rd.
Kelly Whaley rounded out the scoring for the Tar Heels on the day, shooting even-par to finish at 2-over and tied for 41st. Bryana Nguyen shot 1-over and is in a tie for 48th at 3-over for the tournament.
Roshnee Sharma continues to have a strong tournament as an individual. She shot 2-over par on the day and stands at 3-over for the tournament in a tie for 48th. Cheni Xu shot a 5-over-par 77 and Clementina Rodriguez shot a 15-over 87 in round 2.
Leona Maguire of Duke, the tournament's individual medalist in 2015 and the 2017 NCAA runner-up, now leads the field at 9-under par after shooting 66 in round two. Duke extended their lead over the field to 22-under par after shooting a new Tar Heel Invitational team round record of 271.
Paz Marfa of Michigan State also set a new Tar Heel Invitational record and a UNC Finley women's course record for individual round with her 8-under 64.
