Carolina Dominates Saturday At ITA Regionals

CHAPEL HILL - The North Carolina women's tennis team continued its domination of the ITA Carolinas Regional on Saturday from the cozy confines of Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. Three Tar Heel doubles tandems reached the semifinals, while three players are into the quarterfinals of the Main Draw Singles bracket.
The Sunday semifinal doubles matches will feature an all Carolina affair in the bottom half of the bracket. Second seed and No. #12 Jessie Aney and Alexa Graham will take on teammates Makenna Jones and Chloe Ouellet-Pizer.
In the top half, UNC's 38th ranked Alle Sanford and Sara Daavettila will go up against top seed and 26th ranked Anna Rogers and Claudia Wiktorin of NC State.
The doubles matches begin Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
The Round of 16 singles action saw three Carolina players pick up wins on Saturday. Top seed/#22 Jessie Aney topped No. 20 Meible Chi of Duke, 6-3, 6-4.
Fifth seed/#4 Sara Daavettila was pushed to three sets, but came out a winner, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, over No. 28 Ingrid Martins of South Carolina. No. 42 Alexa Graham won 7-5, 6-3 over Eliza Omirou of Wake Forest.
No. 54 Samantha Harris of Duke defeated third seed/#65 Makenna Jones of North Carolina, 6-4, 6-4.
Sunday's quarterfinal matches will begin at 11:30 a.m. The top half of the bracket features Aney versus No. 55 Lauren Proctor of Winthrop and Graham taking on Clemson's Marie Leduc.
The bottom of the bracket has Daavettila facing Duke's No. 57 Kaitlyn McCarthy, and an all Duke matchup featuring Kelly Chen and Samantha Harris.
