Fountain Leads UNC with a 70

Tar Heels Tied for 11th at Tavistock
Preyer Fountain shot a 2-under-par 70 to lead the University of North Carolina in the first round of the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational Sunday at the Isleworth Country Club.
The Tar Heels shot a 6-over 294 in the first of three rounds. Fountain's 70 led the way and was followed by a 73 William Register, 74 by Ben Griffin, 77 by Jose Montaño and 78 by Austin Hitt.
Fountain, junior from Raleigh, had two birdies on each side. Montaño and Register also had four birdies for UNC.
The Tar Heels began slowly, playing the first five holes in 11 over par. UNC shot 5-under as a team over the final 13 holes.
Carolina is tied for 11th in the 17-team field. Illinois leads at 9-under-279, with Florida (-6), Texas Tech (-2), Cal (-1) and LSU (+1) rounding out the top five with 36 holes to play.
Florida's John Axelsen and Illinois' Dylan Meyer lead the individual competition after shooting 5-under 67. They lead Texas Tech's Ivan Ramirez by a stroke. Fountain is part of a four-way tie for seventh place at -2.
