Carolina men receive votes in preseason poll.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The ballots are in and the votes counted for the College Swimming Coaches Association of America – TYR Top 25 preseason poll.

The University of North Carolina women's team, 17th at last year's NCAA Championships, are ranked 22nd in the preseason poll. The Tar Heel men's team, 36th in last year's NCAA Championships, are in the also receiving votes category.

Coach Rich DeSelm's team opens its 2017-18 dual meet schedule Friday with a meet at the University of Georgia. The Georgia women begin the season ranked fourth while the Georgia men are tied for eighth in the poll.

As always, DeSelm has tasked his youth-laden team with a challenging dual meet schedule in order for the Tar Heels to be ready for the ACC and NCAA championships season in February and March.

UNC's men's opponents this year include #2 Texas, #5 NC State, #8 Georgia, #16 South Carolina, #19 Virginia Tech and #22 Virginia. Six of UNC's dual meet opponents this year on the men's side are ranked in the Top 25.

Amongst women's opponents this season, UNC will face #3 Texas, #4 Georgia, #8 NC State, #13 Virginia and #20 Duke as five of the nine dual meet foes are ranked in the preseason Top 25.

The Stanford University women and California men top the first College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America / TYR Top 25 Swimming & Diving Poll of the 2017-18 season. Rankings are compiled by CSCAA-member coaches and released on a bi-weekly basis. The next polls will be released on October 24, 2017.

After facing Georgia Friday, the Tar Heels will compete at South Carolina on Thursday, October 26 before competing at home for the first time against Virginia Tech on Saturday, November 4.
