Aney Advances At Riviera/ITA All-Americans

PACIFIC PALISADES, California - North Carolina's Jessie Aney grabbed a three-set win on Thursday in the first round of Main Draw Singles action at the 2017 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships at Riviera Tennis Club.
Aney, the junior from Rochester, Minnesota, lost the opening set, but rallied to post a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, victory over No. 93 Brooke Austin of Florida.Â
The 22nd ranked Aney now faces No. 18 Stacey Fung of Washington in the second round on Friday afternoon.Â
Third seed and fourth ranked Sara Daavettila was upended by No. 27 Felicity Maltby of Texas Tech, 7-5, 6-3. Daavettila is now the top seed in the Main Draw Consolation bracket and takes on No. 15 Anna Danilina of Florida on Friday.Â
In doubles, No. 12 Aney and Alexa Graham topped Utah's Margo Pletcher and Brianna Turley, 8-2, in the first round, but was unable to continue that momentum in the second round on Thursday, falling 8-6 to No. 7 seed and eighth ranked Sarah Dvorak and Sabrina Federici of Texas Tech.Â
The main draw continues through the weekend in Southern California.
