UNC Awarded No. 3 Seed for NCAA Championship

Chapel Hill, N.C. – North Carolina earned the No. 3 seed in the 2017 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship, and will host a second round match on Sunday, Nov. 19, at WakeMed Soccer Park beginning at 7 p.m. ET.

Carolina will open its 25th NCAA postseason appearance against the winner of Thursday's first round match between UNC Wilmington (UNCW) and Presbyterian.

Tickets are available for purchase at GoHeels.com, and are $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors. The first 300 UNC students with valid a UNC One Card will receive free entry to the game.Â

UNC leads the all-time series against UNCW 10-5-2. In the last matchup between the two a 1-0 UNCW victory handed the Tar Heels its first loss of the season. UNC has never faced Presbyterian.

Carolina is a top-16 national seed for the seventh time in the last nine years, and will be making its 17th postseason appearance in the last 18 seasons. The Tar Heels have hosted at least one postseason match every year since 2000.

UNC, 37-19-8 in NCAA Championship action, has won the national title in 2001 and 2011, appeared in seven College Cup, and are looking to make back-to-back trips for the first time since they went four consecutive years from 2008-2011.

Carolina is 14-3-1 this season, winning the ACC Coastal Division for the third year in a row with a 6-1-1 conference mark and was the No. 2 seed in the ACC Championship. The Tar Heels placed six players on the postseason All-ACC teams, led by sophomore Cam Lindley who was named ACC Midfielder of the Year as well as first team.

Alan Winn rounded out the first team selections for the Tar Heels while the second team consisted of Zach Wright. Alex Comsia and Mauricio Pineda earned a place on the third team while John Nelson was named to the all-freshman team.
