November 28, 2017 | Men's Soccer
North Carolina senior forward Alan Winn and sophomore midfielder Cam Lindley have been named semifinalists for the 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy, the most prestigious award in college soccer. North Carolina joins Stanford as the only two teams with multiple players on the list.
Â
Winn, a first team All-ACC selection, leads the Tar Heels in goals (10) this season despite missing five games due to injury, is second in the ACC in goals per game (.67) and tied for fourth overall. He was selected as Top Drawer Soccer National Player of the Week on Sept. 26 after scoring four goals in a three game stretch against William & Mary, Duke and George Washington. The forward from Garland, Texas, is third on the team in total points (22) and has been a catalyst for Tar Heels during its run to the ACC Coastal Division title as well as the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship.
Â
Lindley is considered one of the best midfielders in the country and was named first team All-ACC as well as ACC Midfielder of the Year. The sophomore leads the team in assists (12), points (26) and set the record for most assists in one season for a player under Head Coach Carlos Somoano. A two-time Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week member, Lindley is second in the ACC in assists, assists per game and sixth in total points. Lindley is looking to lead the Tar Heels to its second consecutive Men's College Cup berth in his second season at UNC.
Â
Three men's finalists and three women's finalists will be named on December 8 in conjunction with the Men's College Cup semifinals in Philadelphia. The 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on January 5, 2018 to formally announce this year's winners.
