Three Former Tar Heels To Play For LPGA Tour Cards
November 28, 2017 | Women's Golf
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Former Tar Heels Leslie Cloots, Catherine O'Donnell and Katherine Perry will play for one of the 20 LPGA Tour cards that are up for grabs beginning Wednesday at LPGA International in the LPGAÂ Qualifying School Stage III.
The Tar Heels are three of 166 players that will compete for the 20 spots in a grueling 90-hole stroke play format on Jones and Hills courses of LPGA International through Sunday, Dec.3, to determine status for the 2018 LPGA and Symetra Tour seasons.
"The Tar Heel family is excited for Catherine, Katherine and Leslie," head coach Jan Mann said. "We will be watching closely, pulling for them and cheering them on."
After 72 holes, the field will be cut to the top 70 players and ties.Â
With only 20 full-time LPGA cards up for grabs, if there is a tie for the 20th position at the conclusion of the tournament, the players tied will compete in a three-hole aggregate stroke-play playoff.Â
If players remain tied following that, they will move to a hole-by-hole playoff. Those who finish in places 21-45, and players tied for 45th, earn conditional LPGA status for 2018.
Perry is one of 73 individuals in the tournament who held LPGA membership in 2017. She wrapped up her rookie year on the Tour in September in which she had three top-50 finishes. Her high-finish came at the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic where she tied for 15th and shot 14-under par 274.
Cloots recently wrapped up her rookie year and O'Donnell concluded her fifth year on the Symetra Tour
