Akkerman and Vazquez Open Kitty Harrison Invitational Strong

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – This Friday featured the first day of the 14th annual Kitty Harrison Invitational hosted by the North Carolina women's tennis team at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill.
In doubles, Chloe Ouellet-Pizer and Cassandra Vazquez lost 8-2 to Najarian and Ruder-Hook of Michigan. Marika Akkerman and Maggie Kane fell 8-5 to Michigan's Hall and Patiuk.
Later in the morning against Kansas State, Akkerman and Vazquez found their stride defeating Costamanga and King 8-3. Linares and Mequita of Kansas State edged out Ouellet-Pizer and Kane 8-7 (4).
In the afternoon, the Tar Heels faced Elon in singles. Ouellet-Pizer earned a 6-0, 6-1 win over Zenoni. Akkerman defeated Lucas 6-1, 6-3. Vazquez picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win over Braschi. Kane fell to Moore 6-4, 2-6, 11-9.
The second day of the Kitty Harrison Invitational begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday at 9 a.m. when the Tar Heels take on the South Carolina Gamecocks in doubles. Their campaign continues at 10:30 a.m. as they switch to singles and face Penn State.
