CHAPEL HILL—The 2017-18 regular season tips off on Friday night in the Smith Center, and Tar Heel fans will get their first official look at the defending NCAA champions when Carolina hosts Northern Iowa.

1. NEWS & NOTES
• It's game week!
• Roy Williams Live, the head coach's weekly radio show, debuted this week. Fans can listen online, and past episodes will be archived during the season.
• The official 2017-18 Tar Heel media guide is available now for free download (or to purchase a hard copy). The team's exhaustive record book is a free download here.
• Carolina starts the season ranked No. 9 in both major national polls.
• Single-game tickets for the 2017-18 season are on sale now, and five-game mini-packs and the Tar Heel Package of tickets are still available.
2. THIS WEEK
• Joel Berry II is one of 32 candidates for the Oscar Robertson Trophy, given by the USBWA to the national player of the year:
• ESPN ranked the top 50 players in college basketball entering the 2017-18 season. Berry was No. 13 on the list.
• Sports Illustrated rated the Tar Heel offense among the best in the nation.
• Mike DeCourcy of the Sporting News talked with Roy Williams about the relief of entering the 2017-18 season.

• Berry updated the status of his injured hand.

• Marcus Paige, who has a two-way contract with the Charlotte Hornets, made his G-League debut with the Greensboro Swarm last week.
• Sad news to report that former Tar Heel Ed Stahl has passed away in an auto accident.
