Comsia Earns Scholar All-America Honors

KANSAS CITY, MO. - United Soccer Coaches (formerly National Soccer Coaches Association of America) announced on Thursday the association's Men's and Women's Scholar All-America Teams for NCAA Division I.

For the second consecutive year Tar Heel defender Alex Comsia was named a NCAA Division I Scholar All-American, this time earning a place on the second-team.

Comsia, who maintains a 3.71 grade point average, was also named to the 2017 Scholar All-South Region first team Wednesday and was previously a third-team Scholar All-American in 2016.

The British Columbia native was a mainstay for the Tar Heels back line this season starting in all 22 games and leading the team in minutes played with 1,977.

Last season, Comsia received the NCAA Elite 90 award at the 2016 NCAA Men's College Cup, which is awarded to the player with the highest cumulative GPA.Â

Student-athletes receiving Scholar All-America recognition at the NCAA Division I level must meet the following criteria:Â
Players on this year's Scholar All-America Teams will be formally acknowledged for their accomplishments on the field and in the classroom at the All-America Luncheon on January 20, 2018 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in conjunction with the 2018 United Soccer Coaches Convention.Â

- 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) or better throughout career
- Started more than 50 percent of all games and significantly contribute to their team
- Nominated by head coach of current College Services member institution
- Junior or above in academic standing; and, if a transfer student, in second year at schoolÂ
