• Tar Heels improve to 12-2 overall, 1-0 in the ACC.
• Finishes the calendar year 2017 with a 33-7 record spanning two seasons.
• Now 53-12 in ACC season-openers, including 10-5 under Roy Williams.
• Carolina has won 12 straight ACC home games.
• Carolina has won five in a row when the opponents make 10 or more three-pointers (Wake Forest made 11 today).
• Wake Forest shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half, just the third time an opponent has shot 50 percent or better in a half this year (Michigan .517 in the first half, Wofford.500 in the second half).
• Carolina shot 39.7 percent from the floor. That's the first time since the Gonzaga game (2017 national championship game) the Tar Heels have won when shooting under 40 percent from the floor.
• The Deacons missed 40 shots. The Tar Heels grabbed 35 of the misses and did not allow Wake Forest to score a single second-chance point.Â
• Carolina's last three opponents (Wofford, Ohio State and Wake Forest) have combined for 14 offensive rebounds. Those three opponents have scored a total of seven second-chance points.
• Wake Forest out-scored UNC 13-4 in points off turnovers. The nine-point advantage is the largest by an opponent this year.
• Carolina has been out-scored 29-12 in points off turnovers in its last two home games (8-16 in loss vs. Wofford).
• The Deacs out-scored the Tar Heels 15-5 in fastbreak points. Bucknell (10) was the only team to score in double figures in fastbreak points prior to today. UNC's five matches its season low (also vs. Northern Iowa in the season opener).
• This was the first time this season an opponent out-scored UNC in fastbreak points (tied three other times).
• The win was the 399th for UNC in the Smith Center. Carolina is 399-69 overall and 201-53 in league play in the Smith Center.
Tar Heel Player Notes
• Luke Maye led UNC with 17 points and 15 rebounds. It was the fifth time this year he led UNC in both scoring and rebounds.
• It was Maye's eighth double-double this season and ninth of his career.
• It was the fourth time in his career and third time this season he had at least 15 rebounds.
• Maye matched his career high with 18 field goal attempts.
• Theo Pinson led UNC with six assists, the 10th time in 14 games this year he has led UNC in assists. He had two offensive rebounds among his seven boards. The first came with 23 seconds left in the first half and the putback basket gave UNC a five-point lead; the second came with UNC trailing 69-65 with 2:06 to play. He grabbed a missed three by Maye, then fed Maye for his sixth assist of the game which cut the deficit to two. He also had two defensive boards in the final minute.
• Garrison Brooks matched his season high with five offensive rebounds (also at Tennessee).
• Cameron Johnson made a season-high three three-pointers and finished with 11 points, his third time in double figures in as many games as a Tar Heel.
• Joel Berry II scored 16 points to move ahead of Brendan Haywood and Deon Thompson into 36th place in UNC scoring with 1,419 points.
