GREENSBORO—North Carolina junior Luke Maye has been voted the Atlantic Coast Conference Basketball Player of the Week, while Duke's Marvin Bagley III repeats as the league's Rookie of the Week.
The ACC Player of the Week honor is the second of the season for Maye, who was also recognized in week one. Bagley was selected the ACC Rookie of the Week for the third time in four weeks.
ACC basketball weekly honors are determined by a vote of a 15-member media panel.
Maye averaged 24.3 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 blocks in three UNC wins. The Huntersville, North Carolina, native totaled 73 points, 33 rebounds, seven assists and five blocks in the three games. He shot 29-for-46 from the floor (.630), 2-for-5 from 3-point range and 13-of-18 from the foul line (.722)
In the process, Maye set or tied career highs in all three games (11 field goals versus Michigan, 17 rebounds at Davidson and four blocked shots versus Tulane). He had a game-high 27 points, six rebounds and three assists against Michigan, followed by 24 points and a career-high 17 rebounds at Davidson (Maye had a double-double in the first half of the Davidson game with 13 points and 10 boards).
Maye closed out the week Sunday with a game-high 22 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks and a team-high four assists versus Tulane. That marked his fifth double-double, his fifth 20-point/10-rebound game and his seventh time with 20 or more points this year.
Bagley posted two more double-doubles last week, scoring a game-high 23 points with 10 rebounds in the top-ranked Blue Devils' win at Indiana, followed by 19 points and 12 rebounds in a victory over visiting South Dakota. The freshman blocked a career-high three shots against South Dakota.Â
