June 26, 2017 | Women's Tennis, Academics
GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – For the second year in a row, North Carolina's Hayley Carter has been recognized as the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year and headlines the All-ACC Academic Team, as announced by the conference office.
The senior is the only women's tennis player in ACC history to be named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year, ACC Player of the Year and Tournament Most Valuable Player back-to-back years. She is also the ACC record-holder with 168 career singles-victories.
Carter finished her prolific career as a Tar Heel by being named the ITA Senior Player of the Year after recording a perfect 28-0 record during the dual match season at No. 1 singles and was 27-2 in doubles. The South Carolina native garnered ITA All-America honors seven times throughout her career.
North Carolina leads all institutions with six selections to the All-ACC Academic Team: Jessie Any, Hayley Carter, Sara Daavettila, Alexa Graham, Makenna Jones and Chloe Ouellet-Pizer.
Duke had five, while Virginia Tech and Wake Forest each have three representatives and Clemson, Florida State, Miami, NC State and Syracuse all have two. Rounding out the team with one representative apiece is Boston College, Louisville and Notre Dame.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
