Five From Carolina Rowing Named To All-ACC Academic Team

Five Tar Heels have been named to the 2017 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Rowing Team, announced Wednesday by the league. Â North Carolina's Paige Colpo, Morgan Donnelly, Kathryn Johnson, Jackie Kenny and Kelly Williams were named to the 52-member squad, which is selected based on both academic and athletic performance.
Colpo, a rising junior from Cary, N.C., is working toward a double major in media and journalism, and peace, war and defense.
Donnelly, a rising senior from Huntersville, N.C., is working toward a double major in media and journalism, and exercise and sport science.
Johnson, a rising senior from Thomasville, N.C., is majoring in biology.
Kenny, a rising senior from Castle Rock, Colo., is majoring in English.
Williams, a rising junior from Chevy Chase, Md., is majoring in environmental studies.
The team was selected from a record 265 nominations from the ACC's nine schools that sponsor rowing, an average of 29.4 rowers per team, also a league record.
To be nominated for the All-ACC Academic team, student-athletes must have recorded a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average in the winter semester and have maintained a 3.0 career GPA at their respective schools.
Clemson and Syracuse led all ACC schools with nine selections each on the 2017 All-ACC Rowing team, followed by Notre Dame (7), Louisville (6) and Virginia (6), North Carolina (5), Duke (4), and Boston College (3) and Miami (3).
