NEW YORK --- The Friends of John Mackey have released the 2017 John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List, and North Carolina junior Brandon Fritts is among those listed. Given annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end, the award recipient is selected by vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee and the 2017 Mackey Award recipient will be announced on December 6 and then presented live on December 7 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU. All future announcements can be found at www.johnmackeyaward.com.
Fritts has appeared in 23 games over his first two seasons at Carolina, amassing 22 catches for 262 yards and five touchdowns. The Mentor, Ohio, product was limited to nine games in 2016 due to injury but figures to be a key weapon in for the Tar Heel offense as a junior.
