Tar Heels Announce 2017 Women's Soccer Schedule
July 11, 2017 | Women's Soccer
UNC hosts six games in Cary, N.C. this year.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina women's soccer team, 2016 NCAA semifinalists and 2016 ACC Tournament finalists, will play 17 regular season games in 2017, beginning with a matchup against Duke on Friday, August 18 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., at 6 p.m.
Â
Coach Anson Dorrance returns a veteran team in 2017 after advancing to last year's NCAA College Cup with one of the more inexperienced teams in UNC history. The visit to the College Cup was Carolina's first since 2012 and the Tar Heels played in the ACC Tournament final for the first time since 2009.
Â
With a new Fetzer Field currently under construction on the UNC campus, the Tar Heels will play only six games as a home team this year out of a schedule of 17 regular-season contests. All six of those games will be played at Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
Â
The game against Duke on August 18 is technically a non-conference game for the Tar Heels just as it was last year when the teams played in Durham. Carolina will then play six more non-conference games, including a match at 2015 NCAA champion Penn State on September 7. The Tar Heels will open conference play on September 17 when they play at 2016 ACC Tournament champion Florida State.
Â
The 2017 ACC Championship semifinals and finals will be played in Charleston, S.C. on November 3 & 5. The 2017 NCAA College Cup will be played in Orlando, Fla., on December 1 & 3.
