Around The World With Coleman Scott: Madrid
July 17, 2017 | Wrestling
UNC head wrestling coach Coleman Scott is a member of the USA Wrestling World Team coaching staff this summer as the team prepares for the World Championships in Paris, France. Throughout the next two months, Coach Scott will be providing updates on his work with the World Team and his travels to Colorado Springs, Madrid, Germany and, ultimately, Paris. Check back to GoHeels.com and on Twitter @UNCWrestling for the latest.
As I arrive back in the United States, I am beyond blessed to be surrounded by some of the best wrestlers in the world. Madrid was a great city and a very successful trip for the 2017 USA World Team. It served as a great warm up tournament and helped the team come together as we continue preparations for the World Championships next month.Â
Being a coach on an overseas trip for the first time, I was able to take full advantage of any down time. We were able to see some of the oldest and most historic museums in the world. I saw paintings by Picasso, sculptures from 50 B.C., and many more sights around this great city.Â
Arriving in Spain, we all had the same goal - win every possible match. And we did just that! We brought seven guys with us to Madrid and we walked away with seven gold medals. This is the confidence we needed heading into the last training phase preparing for World Championships.Â
I am growing as a coach as much as I can. Learning from world and Olympic champions is a great way for me to expand my wrestling mind. I am home for a couple days before we head back to Colorado Springs for our last domestic training camp starting July 26. We will then head to Frankfurt, Germany, for acclimation camp on August 12 before finally arriving in Paris on August 19 for the World Championships.Â
Thanks for following, and Go Heels!
