Hedges, McCarty Named To MLS All-Star Game
July 19, 2017 | Men's Soccer
A pair of former North Carolina men's soccer standouts - Matt Hedges and Dax McCarty - will represent Major League Soccer against Spanish superpower Real Madrid in the 2017 MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday, Aug. 2 at Soldier Field in Chicago.Â
Hedges, the 2016 MLS Defender of the Year at FC Dallas, is making his first career all-star appearance.
"It's an honor to be included in the All-Star game," Hedges said. "I am excited to be on the field with all of the outstanding players who will be there."
McCarty joined the Fire in a trade prior to the start of the 2017 season. In 15 matches for the Men in Red, McCarty has three assists including the game-winner in a 1-0 victory over Columbus Crew SC on April 8. This is the second All-Star nod for the Winter Park, Fla. native, who took part in the 2015 All-Star Game in Denver.Â
Both players are currently with the United States for the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The national team takes on El Salvador on Wednesday in the quarterfinals. Coverage from Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia begins at 9 p.m. ET on FSI, UniMas and Univision Deportes Network.Â
