Rising junior is majoring in business

North Carolina's Blaine Boyden has been named a 2017 ITA Scholar Athlete, as announced Tuesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Boyden, a rising junior on the Tar Heel men's tennis team, was honored for the second year in a row. He is from Raleigh and is majoring in business administration.

The ITA award, which is open to varsity letterwinners who have been at their current schools for at least two semesters, requires a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the just-completed academic year.

Boyden was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team and earned a spot on the ACC Academic Honor Roll for 2016-17. He also excelled on the court, earning All-NCAA Tournament honors at No. 6 singles after clinching the team's landmark wins in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals and semifinals. He finished the spring dual meet season with a singles record of 22-4.
