Tar Heels In The NBA Summer Update

CHAPEL HILL—The summer of 2017 has been a busy one for University of North Carolina products in the NBA, with several veteran players on the move to new teams and some members of the 2017 NCAA championship Tar Heel team vying to earn spots on NBA rosters for the 2017-18 season. Below is an update on the Carolina comings and goings in the NBA.
Tony Bradley was drafted in the first round (28th overall) by the Los Angeles Lakers and traded to Utah on draft night. In the Las Vegas portion of the NBA Summer League, he shot 52 percent from the floor and averaged 10.6 points per game in five summer outings. In the Utah portion of the Summer League, he averaged 8.0 points and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 48 percent in three games.
Nate Britt played with the Atlanta Hawks in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas and averaged 1.7 points with 1.7 assists per game in three contests.
Vince Carter signed as a free agent with Sacramento in early July and will be a teammate of Justin Jackson with the Kings. Carter is entering his 20th NBA season, the longest pro tenure by any Carolina player and among the longest in NBA history.
Raymond Felton signed as a free agent with Oklahoma City, where he will supplement the backcourt led by 2017 NBA MVP Russell Westbrook.Â
Isaiah Hicks signed as a free agent after the NBA Draft with the Los Angeles Clippers. In the Summer League in Las Vegas, he saw action in five games, shooting 60 percent from the field while averaging 8.0 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.
Justin Jackson was drafted in the first round (15th overall) by Portland and traded to Sacramento on draft night. In Las Vegas in the Summer League, Jackson averaged 16.7 points and 3.3 rebounds in six games.
Brice Johnson played in the Summer League with the Clippers in Las Vegas, shooting 58 percent and averaging 14.4 points in five games.
Kendall Marshall joined Johnson in the Summer League with the Clippers and finished second in Las Vegas in assists at 7.8 per game, trailing only Lonzo Ball of the Lakers (who later earned Summer League MVP honors). Marshall also scored 6.3 points per game in four contests while shooting 50.0 percent.
Kennedy Meeks played with Toronto's team in the NBA Summer League, averaging 11.3 points and 5.5 rebounds while shooting 56 percent in four games. The Raptors later signed him to a contract to attend training camp in the fall.
Marcus Paige spent last year in the G League with Salt Lake City, an affiliate of the Utah Jazz. He played with Minnesota's Summer League team in Las Vegas this month, scoring 12.4 points per game and dishing out an average of 5.0 assists in nearly 30 minutes a game over five outings.
J.P. Tokoto played three games with Utah in Las Vegas, scoring 2.7 points and grabbing 1.7 rebounds per night. In the Utah Summer League, he averaged 4.5 points and 3.0 rebounds while shooting 50 percent from the floor.
Tyler Zeller was waived by the Boston Celtics in early July in a cost-cutting move to get under the salary cap and sign free agent Gordon Hayward. Zeller remains a free agent.
