SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Former North Carolina standouts Matt Hedges, Eric Lichaj and Dax McCarty played instrumental roles in helping the U.S. National Team capture the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup on its home soil this summer.
Last night, Jordan Morris netted the game winner in the 88th minute to lift the United States to a 2-1 victory over an upstart Jamaica side in the championship match from Levi's Stadium in Northern California.
McCarty came on for Darlington Nagbe in the midfield in Wednesday's title match against the Reggae Boyz.
Hedges and Lichaj were reserves in the final, after earning starting roles earlier in the tournament. In fact, Lichaj scored his first international goal in the quarterfinal victory over El Salvador.
The win marked a sixth Gold Cup title for the United States.
