Baldwin Advances To 50-Meter Freestyle Finals

TAOYUAN CITY, CHINESE TAIPEI - Caroline Baldwin, a rising senior at the University of North Carolina and New Jersey native, turned in two strong performances Friday at the World University Games in the 50-meter freestyle preliminaries and semifinals. In the process, she has advanced to the finals of the event which is scheduled for Saturday.
Baldwin finished third Friday in the preliminaries in a time of 25.36. She came back in the semifinals Friday night and went faster, going 25.15. That is just .02 off her own University long course record set earlier this summer at the North Carolina Senior Championships.
Baldwin is the No. 2 seed going into the final behind only Mariia Kameneva of Russia.
Earlier this week Baldwin earned a bronze medal at the World University Games as a member of the U.S.'s 400-meter freestyle relay team.
Competition is being held at the National Taiwan Sport University Swimming Pool.
