Four Corners: NBA Updates, Fall Semester Begins

CHAPEL HILL—Fall classes started a week ago at UNC, and students across campus in Chapel Hill are still getting used to their class schedules as a new academic year begins. The Carolina basketball team also is getting acclimated to the new semester, spending its time lifting weights and playing pickup games in addition to its academic work. As we head into the Labor Day weekend and the start of football season in a few days, here's some of the latest Tar Heel news you may have missed.
1. NEWS & NOTES
• University of Houston head coach Kelvin Sampson reached out for help with relief from Hurricane Harvey relief, and the Tar Heels were part of a big response to help those in need in Texas.
• The Smith Center reopened on Monday after being closed for its annual floor refinishing. The Carolina Basketball Museum is still closed for renovations until at least Sept. 4. The museum is getting a full makeover to incorporate commemorations and videos of the 2017 national title and much more.
• Redemption, the official book chronicling Carolina's run to the 2017 NCAA championship, will be available soon. Preorder the book here.
• Roy Williams and his staff will hold their annual coaching clinic on Oct. 28. Click here to register and here for full details.
2. LAST WEEK
• Kendall Marshall played in the NBA Summer League last month and earned a spot last week on USA Basketball's Men's AmeriCup Team that's been playing this week in Argentina. With the American squad, Marshall has been throwing alley-oop passes to Duke alumnus Marshall Plumlee.  Marshall had six assists in the U.S. win over Panama on Monday.
• Jason Capel (UNC '02) posted a heartfelt message on Instagram to former Tar Heel Sports Network voice Woody Durham, who is battling aphasia, a communication disorder:

• GoHeels TV sat down with new Tar Heel graduate transfer Cameron Johnson to discuss how he's enjoyed adjusting to life in Chapel Hill:
• John Rothstein of CBS Sports named Luke Maye a "prime breakout candidate" for the 2017-18 season:
4. TAR HEELS IN THE PROS
• James Michael McAdoo, fresh off his second NBA championship in three years with Golden State, signed a two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers last week.
• The Charlotte Hornets voted Marvin Williams as the best teammate on the squad recently. Harrison Barnes won the same award with the Dallas Mavericks.
• Tar Heel legend Vince Carter, who signed with Sacramento this offseason, was voted the most influential veteran in the NBA by the NBA Players Association.Â
• Laney High School in Wilmington unveiled its new, Michael Jordan-themed basketball gym last week.
• Justin Jackson hasn't played a regular season game in the NBA yet, but he got married earlier this summer and posted video of the wedding recently (courtesy of Ryan Rosenbaum):
• Raymond Felton also got married last week, with a number of his former Tar Heel teammates on hand:
