Carolina Ranked No. 4 in Preseason Coaches Poll

North Carolina begins the 2017 season ranked No. 4 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll as announced Thursday. The eight ACC men's soccer programs included in the poll is more than twice as many as from any other conference.
Wake Forest, at No. 2, is the only league school ahead of the Tar Heels. Both reached the College Cup last season and are expected to battle for top honors again this upcoming season.
No. 5 Clemson, No. 8 Syracuse, No. 9 Louisville, and No. 10 Notre Dame give the ACC six teams among the top 10.
Virginia will start the season ranked No. 13 in the country, while Virginia Tech is No. 17 in the initial poll.
Last year, an NCAA-record nine ACC teams earned bids to the NCAA Championship, with a record eight teams advancing to the Sweet 16 and five to the Elite Eight. Two squads advanced to the College Cup to mark the 16th straight year at least one ACC team has reached that stage.
Carolina opens its exhibition season with a match against No. 19 Coastal Carolina on Sunday, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park.
The regular season gets underway with a primetime matchup with No. 12 Providence on Friday, Aug. 25 at 7:30 p.m., from Elon's Rudd Field.
