Pyle Wins PDL Championship

MATTHEWS, North Carolina - Behind the outstanding goal keeping of UNC's James Pyle, the Charlotte Eagles defeated the Thunder Bay Chill 2-1 at the Sportsplex at Matthews Stadium to win the 2017 Premier Development League Championship in front of 1,356 fans on Saturday.
Pyle's instrumental play between the pipes helped guide his club to the title. He posted a 0.92 goals-against-average and made 18 saves in the playoffs.
A rising junior for the Tar Heels, Pyle was recently named to the PDL Top Prospects list. Also included is rising sophomore Cam Lindley, the reigning ACC Freshman of the Year that competed this summer in the midfield for the Wilmington Hammerheads.
Rising junior Nils Bruening earned honorable mention honors on the PDL All-Eastern Conference Team. He was the top scoring threat this summer for the Durham based Tobacco Road FC club, scoring eight goals in five matches.
