Incoming freshman brings home two medals in 16-18 age group.
COLUMBUS, OHIO – Incoming University of North Carolina freshman diver Greg Duncan of Oakton, Va., captured the one-meter diving national championship in the 16-18 boys' age group at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion at Ohio State University on Friday. Duncan's title in one-meter diving came one day after he took a bronze medal in the 16-18 age group three-meter championship on Thursday.
Duncan represents the Dominion Dive Club in Virginia and will enroll at Carolina later this month when the University's fall semester begins on August 22.
Duncan was the victor in a loaded 16-18 boys' 1-meter final as he finished first with 599.85 points. Duncan showed resiliency after taking bronze on Thursday night in the 3-meter contest. In the three-meter contest he scored 614.20 points and notched third in another very talented field.
"It's indescribable," Duncan said when asked how he felt clinching the win. "All the hard work you put into the modeling, the workouts and all that. It all comes together right at that point."
Jordan Windle (Fort Lauderdale Diving Team) took second on 1-meter with 584.80 points, while Joshua Davidson (Woodlands Diving Academy) came in third with 565.10 points. Both divers added to their medal cache, with Windle and Davidson going 1-2 one night ago on 3-meter on Thursday when they edged out Duncan.
Duncan, Wingle and Davidson ended up with all the medals in the 16-18 age group in the two springboard events.
