Nguyen And Walker Finish Competition At The U.S. Women's Amateur
August 9, 2017 | Women's Golf
CHULA VISTA, Calif. - Bryana Nguyen and Brynn Walker both missed the cut for match play in the 2017 U.S. Women's Amateur Championship Tuesday at the San Diego Country Club. Nguyen finished 10-over par over the two rounds, while Walker finished 14-over par.
Both came into the tournament with promise, as they posted the lowest scores in each of their qualifying rounds - Nguyen with a 67 in Columbia, Md. and Walker with a 72 in St. David's, Pa. However, it seemed they were unable to get a handle of the course in Chula Vista.
Through 27 holes, Nguyen was on the cusp of qualifying for match play, and a fresh start, as she was just 7-over par and shooting well in the second round with a 1-over-par 37 through the first nine holes. She was able to maintain that score through the next 7 holes, but bogeyed and double bogeyed over the over the final two holes to put match play just out of reach.
Nguyen and Walker will both benefit from this experience competing against some of the best amateur golfers in the world, as the 2017-18 Carolina golf season quickly approaches.
