CARY, N.C. – North Carolina sophomore Josh Peck beat NC State's Georiy Malyshev in straight sets Sunday to win the A2 draw at the Duke James Bonk Invite, played at Cary Tennis Park. Peck won 6-2, 6-4 over Malyshev, a junior who played as high as No. 3 singles for the Wolfpack last season.
Seeded third in the draw, Peck, from Calgary, Alberta, won all four of his tournament matches in straight sets.
Tar Heel sophomore Simon Soendergaard reached the final of the A1 draw but fell to Duke's Spencer Furman on Sunday. Furman, the top seed in the draw, won 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 over Soendergard, who was seeded second.
UNC sophomore Ladd Harrison lost his first match in the B draw but then won his next three to win the back draw. On Sunday he beat Charlotte's Oriol Puig Fome in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
Sophomore Kavir Kumar also played on Sunday in the B draw, beating third-seeded Ciro Lapasas from Louisville 6-2, 6-0 in the seventh-place match.
