Resor Named ACC Freshman Of The Week
September 20, 2017 | Cross Country
GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina's Mitch Resor has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Cross Country Freshman of the Week, as announced Wednesday by the league.Â
Resor, a redshirt freshman from Charlotte, N.C., had his second top-five finish in as many meets Saturday as he led the Tar Heels to a 49-point victory in the Mountains to Sea Open. He finished the 8k race in 25:33.61, taking second place. In his first meet, Resor finished fifth in 18:30 at the Elon Opener, and in both meets Resor was the top Tar Heel finisher.Â
Resor is the first Tar Heel to earn the honor, now in its second year.
"I think it's outstanding," head coach Mark VanAlstyne said. "It's not really surprising to me because I know the kind of work that Mitch has put in, and this is something I'm sure he would say he shares with the rest of the team because there's such good energy among that group right now. You can see it in the workouts. We have a front pack that's just really together, really committed. These kind of accolades are well-deserved, but I think they are just the beginning."
NC State's Dominique Clairmonte earned ACC Women's Cross Country Freshman of the Week honors.
The Tar Heels will race next at the Louisville Classic on Sept. 30.
