Carolina Announces 2017-18 Wrestling Schedule

CHAPEL HILL --- A powerhouse non-conference schedule, a trip to the Cliff Keen Invitational and the return of the ACC Championships to Chapel Hill highlight the 2017-18 North Carolina wrestling schedule, head coach Coleman Scott announced this week. Carolina opens the season at the Hokie Open in Roanoke, Virginia, on Nov. 5, before facing Purdue and Oklahoma State at the Journeyman Duals in New York, on Nov. 11. The Tar Heels then host Appalachian State at Carmichael Arena for the home opener on Nov. 26.
"Our schedule will definitely test our guys," Scott said. "We didn't want to make it easy for them and it won't be. We have 10 duals against top-20 teams right now. These are matches we need to start winning that will prepare us for March."Â
UNC will be back on the road in December, starting the month with its first appearance at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational since 2011. After a break for final exams, the Tar Heels will travel to the midwest for road duals at Nebraska and Northern Iowa before wrapping up the calendar year at the South Beach Duals in Florida.Â
The January slate opens on Jan. 5 when Carolina hosts American, Army West Point and Wyoming for the UNC Duals. After a home dual against Arizona State on Jan. 6, the Tar Heels will visit Rutgers on Jan. 12 before opening Atlantic Coast Conference competition at Virginia on Jan. 19.
The final stretch of the regular season starts with a home dual against Pitt on Jan. 26 followed by road trips to Virginia Tech on Feb. 3 and NC State on Feb. 9. Carolina will wrap up the home dual schedule with the second Brawl at the Hall on Feb. 14 when the Tar Heels host Duke at UNC's Memorial Hall.
Carolina will travel to Cornell for the regular season finale on Feb. 16 before hosting the ACC Championships at Carmichael Arena on March 3.
The season culminates with the 2018 NCAA Wrestling Championships March 15-17 at Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena.
