Daavettila, Sanford Earn Wins At Oracle ITA Masters

MALIBU, California - Sara Daavettila and Alle Sanford each won a pair of matches on Thursday during the first day of the Oracle ITA Masters, hosted by Malibu Racquet Club and Pepperdine University.
Eighth seed and fourth ranked Sara Daavettila faced match point in the second set against Lucile Pothier of Abilene Christian, but rallied by winning the final nine points of the contest for a three-set victory, 4-6, 7-5, 6-0.
Sixth seed Alle Sanford breezed past Anna Grigoryan of LIU Brooklyn, 6-1, 6-1.
In mixed doubles, second seeded Daavettila and Petros Chrysochos of Wake Forest won 6-2 over the combo of Remi Ramos of Boston University and Michael Nguyen of Army.
Fifth seeded Sanford and Billy Griffith squeaked past Michelle Lui of Seattle and Christofer Goncalves of New Mexico State, 7-6 (4).
Day two continues on Friday from California. Both have singles matches at 2 p.m. ET, while Sanford has a mixed doubles quarterfinals match at 1 p.m.
