Sanford, Jones To Play For Tennis Titles On Sunday

MALIBU, California - North Carolina freshman Alle Sanford has reached the title match of the Oracle ITA Masters, hosted by Malibu Racquet Club and Pepperdine University. She defeated Mayar Sherif Ahmed of Pepperdine on Saturday in a three-set match.
Sanford, the sixth seed who had not surrendered a set leading into Saturday's semifinal, won the opening set against 10th-seed Ahmed and was in control of the second before her opponent stormed back to take it 6-4. Sanford was able to close it out by a 6-4 score to reach the title match against No. 1 ranked and top seed Ena Shibahara of UCLA, who earlier in the event upended Tar Heel sophomore Sara Daavettila in the quarterfinals.
The championship match is scheduled for 4 p.m. ET at the Malibu Racquet Club.
