Tar Heels Open 2018 At No. 3 In ITA Rankings

The North Carolina men's tennis team will open the spring schedule at No. 3 in the Oracle/ITA national rankings, announced Wednesday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Tar Heels, NCAA runners-up in 2017, held the same spot in last season's final poll, when Carolina achieved the program's best-ever final ranking.
UNC kicks off the spring season on Jan. 18, hosting North Carolina A&T at 2:30 p.m. and Campbell at 6:30 p.m. at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. To see the entire 2018 spring schedule, click here.
Carolina is one of five Atlantic Coast Conference men's programs ranked in the top 25. Wake Forest opens the year at No. 1, followed by UNC, Virginia at No. 12, Florida State at No. 21 and Duke at No. 25.

The first update to singles and doubles rankings is due on Feb. 7. In the most recent rankings, released on Nov. 15 following fall play, sophomore William Blumberg was No. 2 in singles, and he and senior Robert Kelly were No. 3 in doubles.
Other Tar Heels ranked in singles are sophomore Simon Soendergaard (No. 70), sophomore Josh Peck (No. 79) and Kelly (No. 94).
