Carolina Takes on New Hampshire in EAGL Match-Up
January 31, 2018 | Women's Gymnastics
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Carolina gymnastics looks to continue its success on the road against EAGL opponent New Hampshire on Friday, Feb. 2nd at 7 p.m. The 4-1 Heels are ranked third in the EAGL conference behind Pittsburgh and George Washington following their 3-0 road win over Towson, Yale, and Ursinus.
"This weekend we have the opportunity to compete against another EAGL school," said UNC head coach Derek Galvin. "This will be our third EAGL school that we've faced in the regular season. New Hampshire is a solid team. They outscored us at the EAGL championships last year. At regionals, we outscored them. So the two teams are very, very evenly matched. With this being a home meet for them, obviously they're going to be pretty fired up but so are we. We're looking forward to competing."
The Tar Heels will face another new rotation order in their first away duel meet. Although Carolina has been steady in their vault and floor performances this year so far, they hope to improve upon their consistency in this week's bookend events.
"We'll begin on bars and finish on beam, and those are two events that we know we have not up to this point shown what we're fully capable of doing," said Galvin. "That's the goal going into New Hampshire, to show what we're capable in those two events."
Carolina has certainly had its individual triumphs in the events with Alexis Allen's career-high 9.900 on beam against Temple and Madison Nettles' 9.800 on bars in the season opener, but the team's focus is to improve together on Friday.
Extending their streak, Carolina gymnastics racked up three more wins after defeating Towson, Yale, and Ursinus in SECU Arena at Towson University. The Tar Heels earned a team total of 194.600 to best the second-place Tigers (194.275), third-place Bulldogs (192.050), and fourth-place Bears (187.425).
