February 13, 2018 | Softball
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Tossing each of North Carolina's three wins, sophomore Brittany Pickett has been named the ACC's Pitcher of the Week, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the league office. This is Pickett's third such honor and first for the Tar Heels in 2018.
Â
Pickett went 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA in the first week of the season, tossing two complete-game shutouts and four scoreless innings in a third game. In her first appearance of the season, the Indian Trail, North Carolina-native came into a bases-loaded situation, pitching three consecutive outs to hold off Butler's attempt at a comeback. Later that day, Pickett turned around to throw a complete-game shutout against Louisville, allowing a mere four hits. Pickett struck out seven batters in an extra-inning game at UCF to secure her second shutout of the weekend.
Â
Pickett and the Tar Heels travel to Elon Wednesday for a 4:30 p.m. matchup against the Phoenix. Up next, the ACC/Big Ten Challenge comes to Anderson Stadium Friday through Sunday, featuring Illinois, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh and host North Carolina. The Tar Heels' first matchup is Friday at 4 p.m. vs. Illinois.
