Carolina Closes Out Indoor Regular Season At UCS Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The North Carolina track and field teams will send a small contingent to the UCS Invitational at the JDL Fast Track Friday-Saturday (Feb. 16-17) to conclude the indoor regular season prior to next weekend's ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
The meet gets underway Friday evening at 6 p.m. UNC will compete in women's distance medley relay for the first time this season at 7:30Â p.m., with Erin Edmundson running the 1,200, Cierra Dunston running the 400, Blake Dodge in the 800 and Caroline Alcorta wrapping up with the mile.
On Saturday, the meet will resume at 10 a.m. At that time, Brianna Duncan and Janice Ezenwa will compete in the women's long jump, RaeKwon Villines and Carson Pledger will compete in the men's long jump, and Bailey Frederick and Drew Pedersen will compete in the men's pole vault.Â
At 12:25 p.m., Duncan will compete in the women's 60 meters, followed by Cameron Douglas and Dontavian Smith in the men's race at 12:35 p.m.
At 12:30 p.m., Ezenwa, Brianna Isles and Peighton Simmons will compete in the women's triple jump, and Villines and Pledger will compete in the men's triple jump.
At 12:50 p.m. Katlin Sherman, Tamira Gitonga and Kristin Hall will race in the women's 400 meters.
Hall will close out the weekend for the Tar Heels in the women's 200 meters at 2:40Â p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend was highlighted by Morgan Ilse's record-breaking performance in the women's 5,000 meters. She broke Addie Bracy's 2008 school record in the indoor 5,000 meters on February 9 at the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tenn., placing second in 16:16.77. The time is seventh in the ACC this season and top 50 in the country.
Jill Shippee moved up to third in UNC history in the women's weight throw at the Tiger Paw Invite on February 10. She threw a season-best 63-1 ¼ (19.23 meters) in the weight throw on her second attempt to finish fourth. The throw is sixth in the ACC this season.
The 4x400 squads also moved into the top five in UNC history with their performances at the Music City Challenge on February 10.
The men's team of Ryan Saint-Germain, Isaiah Palmer, Jadon Johnson and Kenny Selmon ran 3:07.57. That is the second-fastest time in the ACC this season, it is top 20 in the country and it is the fourth-fastest time in school history.
The women's team of McKinley McNeill, Jewel Christian, Natisha Dixon and Cierra Dunston ran 3:37.19 to finish third - the time is third in the ACC this season, top 35 in the country and fourth in school history.
IN THE RANKINGS
Entering this weekend's meet, the Tar Heels own 12 times/marks that rank top five in the ACC and six that rank in the top 25 in the country. Nicole Greene's high jump of 6-2 (1.88 meters) from the Dick Taylor Carolina Cup on January 13 is still the top mark in the ACC and the third-best mark in the country.
