Luke Maye Earns Academic All-District Honors

University of North Carolina forward Luke Maye was named to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District men's basketball team, which recognizes student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom.

A junior from Huntersville, N.C., Maye was one of six players selected to District 3, which includes players from North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

Maye is the leading scorer and rebounder for the Tar Heels, who have won six games in a row and are 22-7 overall, 11-5 in the ACC.

Maye has a 3.45 grade point average and was admitted to the undergraduate program in business administration at the nationally-renowned Kenan-Flagler Business School.

He won Academic All-ACC honors as a freshman and sophomore. He is the only ACC player to earn Academic All-District honors this season.

Maye is averaging 18.0 points and 10.2 rebounds per game, is a candidate for the Naismith and Wooden Awards for National Player of the Year, the Karl Malone Award as the top power forward in the country, and All-ACC and Player of the Year honors.

He has 14 double-doubles, scored 20 or more points 12 times, and had three games with at least 30 points and 10 rebounds. Maye is one of two players in the ACC in the top 10 in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage.

Last season, he won Most Outstanding Player honors in the NCAA South Regional.

Jahaad Proctor (High Point), Paul Rowley (William and Mary), Tyler Seibring (Elon), Kevin Vannatta (UNC Asheville) and Dylan Windler (Belmont) join Maye on the 2018 District 3 team.
