March 12, 2018 | Men's Basketball, Academics, Student-Athlete Development
CHAPEL HILL – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has named University of North Carolina junior forward Luke Maye a second-team Academic All-America.
Â
Maye, a business administration major and a student in the Kenan Flagler Business School, is the 15th Tar Heel to earn Academic All-America honors and the third in the last eight years along with Tyler Zeller and Marcus Paige.
Â
The Huntersville, N.C., native has won first-team All-ACC and third-team All-America honors this year for his play on the court (leads UNC in scoring at 17.2 points per game and rebounds with 10.1 per game) and received the Skip Prosser Award as the top scholar-athlete in men's basketball in the ACC.
Â
Maye is a three-time Academic All-ACC team selection (the sixth Tar Heel to be honored at least three times with Tom LaGarde, Steve Hale, Henrik Rödl, Zeller and Paige). His father, Mark, who played quarterback at Carolina in the 1980s, also was a two-time Academic All-ACC selection.
Â
Maye is joined on the second team by Villanova's Jalen Brunson, who has won national player of the year honors this season.
Â
West Virginia's Jevon Carter, Creighton's Tyler Clement, North Dakota State's A.J. Jacobson, Elon's Tyler Seibring and UMBC's Joe Sherburne comprise the first team. Carter is the National Academic All-America of the Year.
