Wike Tabbed ACC Player of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Leading Carolina with six hits, eight RBI and a .462 average, senior Taylor Wike has been named the ACC Player of the Week, as announced Tuesday afternoon by the league office. This is Pickett's first weekly honor and second for the Tar Heels in 2018.
Wike led Carolina's offense with an impressive 1.000 slugging percentage and .588 on-base clip. The senior logged two triples and a home run for extra-base hits. Wike was also nearly perfect at shortstop with 10 putouts, assisting 10 to turn two double plays. She opened the weekend with a 3-for-4 outing with five RBI and two runs score against Charlotte, including a bases-clearing triple in the seventh inning. In the series opener vs. Duke, Wike logged five crucial outs in the one run game, including a double-play in the ninth inning. Saturday morning, the senior secured Carolina's victory with an RBI-triple in the sixth inning. Wike capped off the weekend with a 2-for-3 day at the plate, including a two-run home run for her fourth gone-ball of the season.
Wike and the Tar Heels take on UNCW, Wednesday at 4 p.m. in Wilmington, North Carolina. Up next, Pittsburgh returns to Anderson Stadium to being the ACC series Friday through Sunday in Chapel Hill.
