- North Carolina improved to 26-10 overall and advanced to play Texas A&M Sunday, March 18, in the second round of the West Region.
- The Tar Heels are 29-1 in first round games since the field expanded to 64 teams in 1985. It was their 16th consecutive tournament appearance with a victory.
- The Tar Heels improved to 23-8 all-time as a No. 2 seed and 7-0 against No. 15 seeds.
- UNC Head Coach Roy Williams is 28-0 in first round games, the best record in opening round play in NCAA history.
- The Tar Heels improved to 34-1 in NCAA Tournament games played in the state of North Carolina, including a 12-0 mark in Charlotte (5-0 at Spectrum Center).
- Senior Joel Berry moved passed Michael Jordan into 13th place on the Tar Heels' career scoring list. Berry has scored 1,792 points in 143 games at UNC.
- Berry grabbed his 400th career rebound to join Walter Davis as the only Tar Heels with 1,700 points, 400 rebounds and 400 assists.
- Berry became the fourth player in UNC history to make 90 3s in a season (105 Justin Jackson, 2016-17; 95 Shammond Williams, 1996-97, 94 Marcus Paige, 2015-16). Berry made two 3-pointers today to bring his season total to 91.
- Senior Theo Pinson scored double figures in an NCAA Tournament game for the first time in 16 career tournament games.
- Pinson posted his sixth double-double of the season and fifth in the last 10 games. He is the 45th different player to register a double-double for the Tar Heels in an NCAA Tournament game.
- Junior Kenny Williams scored double figures for the seventh consecutive game and the 26th time overall this season. It was the second time this year that he led the team in scoring. He scored a team-high 16 points against Syracuse in the ACC Tournament.
- Williams made four 3-pointers and UNC improved to 8-3 in games in which Williams makes three or more 3s.
- Junior Luke Maye scored double figures for the fourth time in 13 career NCAA Tournament games.
