Lichaj Named To USMNT Roster For Paraguay Friendly In Cary

Former Tar Heel Eric Lichaj was one of 22 players called to North Carolina in advance of the upcoming friendly against Paraguay on March 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Cary. This will be the first match in Cary since 2006, a 1-1 draw against Jamaica.

A fixture at right back with Nottingham Forest since 2013, Lichaj has 14 career caps and one career goal with the Men's National Team. Though he earned his first U.S. cap back in 2011, Lichaj experienced a renaissance with the MNT in 2017, when he appeared in four matches, including three at the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup where he also scored his first career international goal. A veteran in the MNT player pool, Lichaj's pace and ability going forward make him an option at both fullback positions for the MNT. Â

Lichaj, who signed with Aston Villa following his freshman year at UNC, was voted Nottingham Forest's Player of the Season for 2016-17 and recorded his first career brace in a 4-2 upset of Arsenal in the third round of the 2017-18 FA Cup.
