Tar Heels Ready For Briar's Creek Invitational

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. - The University of North Carolina women's golf team will begin the sixth-annual Briar's Creek Invitational hosted by the College of Charleston Monday at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek. The Tar Heels will play the first 36 holes Monday, March 19 with the final round taking place on Tuesday, March 20.
The tournament is the final competition in a stretch of three tournaments in three weeks for the Tar Heels. They are coming off of a fifth-place finish in the BYU at Entrada Classic, which was highlighted by Kelly Whaley's 14th-place individual finish at 2-over par. In the first competition of the three-week stretch, Carolina finished seventh in a deep field at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate.Â
The 54-hole Briar's Creek Invitational will play host to 16 teams, including four teams in the Golfstat Top 50.Â

THE FIELD
Boston College, Campbell (40), College of Charleston, Charleston Southern, Coastal Carolina (53), East Carolina (37), Georgetown, Illinois (23), Kansas, Maryland, North Carolina (29), Old Dominion, Penn State, South Florida, Texas Tech and UNC Asheville.
TAR HEEL STARTING FIVE
Carolina's starting five will be junior Kelly Whaley (Farmington, Conn.), freshman Ava Bergner (Ketsch, Germany), sophomore Mariana Ocano (St. Petersburg, Fla.), senior Bryana Nguyen (Columbia, Md.) and sophomore Brynn Walker (St. David's, Pa.). Junior Clementina Rodriguez (Caracas, Venezuela) will also compete as an individual.
THE TOURNAMENT VENUE
The Briar's Creek Invitational will be played at The Golf Club at Briar's Creek in Johns Island, S.C. The course has a par-72, 6,101-yard set up.
COMPETITION SCHEDULE
The Briar's Creek Invitational is a 54-hole tournament with two round scheduled for Monday, March 19 (shotgun start at 9 a.m.) and one round to be played on Tuesday, March 20 (shotgun start at 8:45 a.m.).
