Carolina Remains Undefeated, Takes Down Wake Forest 2-0
April 14, 2018 | Men's Soccer
Winston-Salem, N.C. -- North Carolina continued their undefeated spring season with a 2-0 victory against Wake Forest to move to 4-0 in the U.S. Soccer Spring College Program, the only unbeaten team in the program.Â
After a competitive first half, both teams went in to halftime tied 0-0. The Tar Heels jumped on the board first thanks for a Wake Forest hand ball in the box that led to a penalty kick. Mauricio Pineda stepped up and buried the penalty for his fourth goal of the spring season, one in each game so far.Â
A bright spot for the Tar Heels two seasons ago, Nils Bruening saw his first action for Carolina since his ACL injury sidelined him for the 2017 season. In his first game back, the Hamburg, Germany, native scored on a header off a quick restart to double the Carolina lead and finish off the game.
Drew Romig picked up the clean sheet for Carolina with a full 90 minutes in goal.
The Tar Heels fifth and final game of the spring season will take place next Saturday against Duke in Winston-Salem. The game time has yet to be determined.
