#1 Heels Cruise Past Clemson, 7-0

GREENVILLE, South Carolina - No. 1 North Carolina retained its stranglehold on first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference women's tennis standings after a 7-0 victory at Clemson on Sunday afternoon from Furman University.
The Tar Heels (22-2, 11-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) head into the final week of the regular season tied at the top with long-time rival Duke, who disposed of Pitt on Sunday by a likewise, 7-0, result.
The Blue Devils host UNC on Friday in Durham with the top seed in the upcoming ACC Championship up for grabs. The match is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
On Sunday, Carolina took the opening doubles point and never looked back in pinning Clemson with its fourth-straight loss in the series and dropped the Tigers to 12-11 on the year and 5-7 against the ACC.
The singles matches went quickly in favor of the visiting Tar Heels. No. 88 Alexa Graham and No. 18 Makenna Jones each improved to 12-0 in league play with straight-set victories.
Jones is no stranger to the Mickel Tennis Center at Furman University. Her father, Kelly, is the men's tennis coach for the last seven seasons with the Paladins. The Greenville native recorded an impressive victory over No. 19 Marie Leduc, the Tigers lone ranked singles participant.
No. 79 Jessie Aney clinched the victory for the Tar Heels. No. 25 Alle Sanford, Chloe Ouellet-Pizer and Marika Akkerman followed with singles wins to complete the shutout of the Tigers.
