Tar Heels Welcome ECU for Wednesday Contest

CHAPEL HILL – With their fifth ACC series win in the books, the Tar Heels remain home for a midweek match against East Carolina before embarking on a six-game road trip. Fans can watch Wednesday's 5 p.m. game on ACC Network Extra or follow live stats at UNClivestats.com.

With a two-game lead, Carolina (25-21) sits atop the ACC Coastal division with series wins over NC State, Notre Dame and Virginia, and sweeps over Duke and Virginia Tech. Carolina logged its sixth ACC series win over NC State, capping off the series with a Monday night, 8-0 in six innings on ESPNU. Kiani Ramsey leads the team with a .402 average for the season with a team-best 49 hits. With a .358 average, Taylor Wike tops the team leaderboards in several offensive categories: home runs (7), RBI (29), slugging percentage (.612) and on-base percentage (.466). Leah Murray owns a .359 average, leading the team in runs scored (30) and stolen bases (27). With a 23-8 record, Brittany Pickett ranks second nationally in victories and shutouts, tossing three in her last four starts. Â

After a three-game sweep of UConn in Storrs, the Pirates (19-24) wrap up their road trip at UNC. ECU has won its past four games, including the series finale against Memphis. Tyler King leads the Pirates with a .297 average while Whitney Standford and Erin Poepping have each pitched just over 100 innings.

UNC leads the series against ECU, 64-53. The Tar Heels won the most recent meeting, 4-0 on March 1, 2017 in Greenville, North Carolina. Carolina has won 16 of the past 19, including the most recent meeting in 2017. ECU had two nine-game winning streaks between 1980 and 1984.
