Carolina Begins Road Trip at Georgia Tech

CHAPEL HILL – After going 7-2 in their home stand, the Tar Heels embark on a seven-game road trip, beginning with Georgia Tech Friday through Sunday. Friday's matchup begins at 6 p.m. with both game Saturday and Sunday starting at 1 p.m. Fans can watch all three games on the ACC Network Extra.

Recently for Carolina
With a two-game lead, Carolina (26-21, 13-5 ACC) sits atop the ACC Coastal division with series wins over NC State, Notre Dame and Virginia, and sweeps over Duke and Virginia Tech. Carolina logged its sixth ACC series win over NC State, capping off the series with a Monday night, 8-0 in six innings on ESPNU. The Tar Heels tacked on another win two days later, topping ECU, 4-3 in a back-and-forth contest that was settled by Brittany Pickett's second home run in as many games. Kiani Ramsey leads the team with a .400 average for the season with a team-best 50 hits. With a .358 average, Taylor Wike tops the team leaderboards in several offensive categories: home runs (7), RBI (29), slugging percentage (.613) and on-base percentage (.464). Leah Murray owns a .359 average, leading the team in runs scored (30) and stolen bases (28). With a 24-8 record, Pickett ranks second nationally in victories and shutouts, tossing three in her last five starts.

Georgia Tech (23-20, 8-7 ACC) remains home after a midweek win over Presbyterian to host UNC Friday through Sunday. First year Georgia Tech head coach Aileen Morales has guided the Jackets to ACC series wins over Virginia, Duke and NC State. Cameron Stanford leads GT with a .301 average while Emily Anderson anchors the pitching staff with 33 appearances and a 15-12 record.

UNC leads the series against Georgia Tech, 41-34. The Tar Heels have won the past eight in a row, including a 7-3 win on Feb. 12, 2107 in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. Carolina has won 13 of the past 16 meetings, including the past two ACC series and a nonconference game in 2017. The Tar Heels own a 33-26 edge over the Jackets in conference play, however, the series is tied 15-15 for meetings in Atlanta.
